The sizing we use on OZ Body Jewellery is the global standard sizing, which is generally used by most places you can get body jewellery. The easiest way to work things out is to first know what size your current body jewellery is and work out if you want to go bigger (as in the case of a Tapers & Stretchers or Plugs & Tunnels).

STANDARD PIERCING SIZES

Here you will find some information on standard piercing sizing for the most common types of body piercing. This is intended to help new comers in choosing the correct size of body jewellery. Please keep in mind, when you are initially pierced you are pierced with a longer piece of jewellery to allow for swelling and to aid in the healing process. The sizes listed below are for healed piercings.

These are the standard sizes used for each piercing in body jewellery. Please note that we cannot guarantee that this is the size used for YOUR piercing. These are the standard gauges and lengths used by most professional piercers. Everyone’s body is different, and sometimes piercers will use different lengths and gauges depending on your body. Please see our body jewellery size charts to learn how to measure your body jewellery so you can choose the correct gauge and length for your piercing.

BELLY – NAVEL

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge (1.6mm)
Jewellery: Curved Barbells, Spirals, Circular Barbells, CBR’s, Belly Dangles

The standard navel gauge is 14ga. Very few piercers will usually only pierce a navel with a 16 gauge needle unless requested.

TONGUE

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge (1.6mm)
Jewellery: Straight Barbells

The most common gauge for a tongue piercing is 14ga. It is recommended to wear jewellery that fits perfect in your tongue. Too long of a barbell will knock on your gums and teeth and will eventually damage them. If for any reason you feel your tongue jewellery creates too much friction with your gums or teeth, replace your jewellery with something shorter. Too short of a barbell could result in the tongue healing over the balls. Keep in mind; you are pierced with a longer piercing to allow for swelling and to aid in the healing process. To avoid damaging your teeth and gums, you should switch to a shorter length barbell when the swelling goes down.

Barbell lengths for a tongue piercing can vary between 10mm and 18mm, depending on the thickness of your tongue. The most common barbell length for tongue piercing tends to be 16mm.

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR TONGUE PIERCING?

It is important to have tongue piercing jewellery at the right length.
To find the size of your barbell, you need to measure the inner length between the two balls (or jewels) in a straight line.
Note that you don’t include the screw thread (or balls when screwed on) when measuring the barbell length.

EYEBROW

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge or 16 Gauge (1.6mm or 1.2mm)
Length: 5/16″ or 3/8″ (8mm or 10mm)
Jewellery: CBR’s, Bent, Straight, Circular Barbells

The most common gauges for an eyebrow piercing are either 16ga or 14ga, with 16ga being the most common. Typical ring diameters and curved barbell lengths are 5/16 inch or 3/8 inch.

LABRET & MONROE

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge or 16 Gauge (1.6mm or 1.2mm)
Length: 5/16″ or 3/8″ (8mm or 10mm)
Jewellery: Labrets, Circular Barbells, CBR’s, Spirals

Labret piercing usually refers to a piercing that is below the bottom lip, above the chin. The most common gauges for a labret piercing are 16ga or 14ga. The thickness of your lips should determine the length of your labret. The most common length is 8mm or 10mm but there are other lengths as well. Labret and Monroe jewellery can also be used for cartilage piercings.

NIPPLE

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge or 16 Gauge (1.6mm or 1.2mm))
Jewellery: Circular Barbells, CBR’s, Straight Barbells, Curved Barbells, Nipple Piercing Jewellery

The most common gauge for a nipple piercing is 16ga. The most common type of nipple jewellery are barbells designed to sit comfortably through the nipple piercing and often have a unique design attached. Curved and straight barbells, CBR (Captive Bead Rings) and Horseshoes can also be used as nipple rings.

CARTILAGE

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge or 16 Gauge (1.6mm or 1.2mm)
Length: 1/4″, 5/16″ or 3/8″ (6mm, 8mm or 10mm)
Jewellery: Labret, Circular Barbell, CBR, Straight Barbell, Curved Barbell, Studs

If you had your cartilage pierced by a gun, you’ve never stretched your hole(s), your jewellery gauge is 20 or 18. If you were pierced with a needle the gauges most commonly range from 16-10, most likely being 14. Various kinds of piercing jewellery suits a cartilage piercing, including labrets, captive bead rings, horseshoes, straight and curved barbells, studs and segment rings.

INDUSTRIAL

Thickness / Diameter: 14 Gauge (1.6mm)
Length: 32mm – 38mm
Jewelry: Industrial Barbells, Straight Barbells

The most common gauge for a industrial cartliage piercing is 14ga.
The industrial barbell is a special piercing because it is one of the few piercings that uses two piercing holes. An industrial barbell can be placed horizontally or vertically. Because every ear is different, the room between the two piercing holes differs from person to person.

Therefore the standard measure of the industrial barbell has the longest length of 38mm. That’s long enough for everyone. Of course, the focus lies on the length. For small/medium sized ears, there are also many industrial barbells available with a length of 32mm to 35mm. These lengths are also often used for vertical industrial barbells.

The standard thickness is just 1.6 mm. That makes it possible to use your industrial barbell in other holes as well.

EAR

Ear lobe piercing is one of the most popular kinds of ear piercings. If you got your ears pierced by a gun, you’ve never stretched your hole(s), your jewellery gauge is 20 or 18. If you were pierced with a needle the gauges most commonly range from 16-10, most likely being 14. CBR (CAPTIVE BEAD RINGS)
